SunPower and GM power homes with EVs, the duo has announced a collaboration to develop a new home energy system, leveraging GM electric vehicles to provide backup home energy. This initiative, coinciding with the launch of the 2024 Chevrolet Silverado EV, positions SunPower as GM’s preferred EV charger installation provider and exclusive solar provider. The partnership aims to integrate SunPower’s home energy expertise with GM’s electric vehicle and battery technology, offering a sustainable and resilient energy solution for customers.
The innovative home energy system, will enable the Chevrolet Silverado EV to offer whole-home backup during grid outages through its bi-directional charging capabilities, meaning SunPower and GM power homes with EVs. SunPower CEO Peter Faricy emphasized the significance of this collaboration in simplifying the shift to an all-electric lifestyle, enhancing the overall experience for electric vehicle owners. Customers purchasing the Silverado EV will have the option to install the home energy system concurrently with their EV charger, facilitating vehicle-to-home power capabilities.
