Coming soon: SunPower brings solar to low income areas! A leading residential solar technology and energy services provider, SunPower, plans to install over 1 megawatt of solar panels at Poppy Grove in Elk Grove, California. This project, featuring 2,649 panels, is set to be one of the largest affordable housing communities in the U.S. powered by renewable energy. It aims to offset up to 80% of the residents’ energy consumption, saving them up to $1,000 annually on utility bills. This initiative aligns with a commitment from the company: SunPower brings solar in low income areas, regardless of their tax bracket or housing status.
The Poppy Grove project, developed by UrbanCore Development and E. Smith & Company, will result in significant savings for the community and its residents. Over fifteen years, the community is expected to save approximately $2.7 million, with the savings being shared among residents and used for maintaining on-site amenities. This project not only meets the city’s low-income housing needs but also embodies SunPower’s efforts to leverage incentives like those in the Inflation Reduction Act to make solar energy investments more affordable. SunPower’s overall mission is to change how the world is powered, providing integrated solar, storage, and energy solutions that offer cost savings and increased resiliency during power outages.
